Come On You Fuckers

COME ON YOU FUCKERS is a project by artist Rowan Smith and composer Ingrid Lee. It is a solo piano transcription of a guitar being smashed until it doesn't produce sound anymore.

The recordings of both the original guitar smashing and piano transcription were made into a 7″ vinyl recording/publication designed by David Karwan and Isaac Berenson, including texts written by Rowan Smith, Ingrid Lee, Jen Hutton, Michael Molitch-hou, Linda Stupart, and Tracy Jeanne Rosenthal.

“COME ON YOU FUCKERS” is a generalized call to action, which in this case, is empty of both content and meaning. In this project, the gesture of smashing a guitar is seen as a gesture of protest which, through repetition and commodification, has also become void of meaning. What new meaning could be gained by transcribing and recontextualizing this gesture?

The record was released at the wulf (Los Angeles) on May 11, 2012 with an evening of performances around gestures of protest.
